A small “What to consider when buying a new winter jacket”-guide 😉

When looking for a winter jacket it is important to consider:
- Type of insulation is a key factor in finding a winter jacket that meets your needs. It determines how warm the jacket is and how much movement it will provide. It is especially important when the jacket is used for riding because it requires a high level of breathability and freedom of movement.
- Fit is important in terms of how much movement you need. If you are a very active rider then a loose fit that offers plenty of freedom will be the right choice. If you prefer a more feminine style, it is better to choose a form-fitting jacket with a tight fit that will easily adapt to your body shape and follow your body’s movement.
- A detachable and adjustable hood is an essential part of a winter jacket designed for riders. From a safety point of view, it is important to have the opportunity to ride without a hood, but also still be able to wear a hood when on the ground.
- Water repellent or waterproof? A waterproof jacket provides a complete barrier to water, but also traps more heat, while a water repellent jacket has a surface that prevents the fabric from saturating, and at the same time allows heat to escape. If you are living in a region where the winters are cold and snowy, but not too wet then a water repellent jacket should be the right choice.
- Wind-resistant or windproof? A windproof jacket will let no wind through the fabric, while a wind-resistant jacket will only have a wind barrier that blocks light to moderate wind. Make sure the jacket is at least wind-resistant in combination with water repellent or waterproof functionalities to get the best protection.
- The Length of the jacket is also important to consider. Do you need the benefits of a long jacket like extra warmth and protection? or will a short winter jacket be more pleasant to wear while riding?
